2010 Workshops

Workshop Pics
The 2010 Morgan workshop season has come to a close. It was an exciting year packed with local, national and international artists coming through the Morgan teaching their paper, book and print expertise to enthusiastic students. Aimee Lee spent a month as resident artist with us building a Hanji (Korean papermaking) studio that was used in her workshop. This is now a permanent addition to the Morgan and the first (an currently the only) of it's kind in the United States. We had several multidisciplinary workshops including Full Circle Paper + Print where locally renown artist Claudio Orso instructed students to make paper Saturday and create prints on that paper Sunday. Also, artist, educator and Morgan board member Shelly DiCello taught Printmaking + Drum Leaf leaving her captive workshoppers with a book they created from their own prints. Melissa Jay Craig taught Unusual 3D Techniques where students learned to use Kozo and overbeaten Abaca to create sculptural paper works. Her own paper sculptures were displayed in our gallery in the show Listening which received local and national reviews. Fran Kovac went beyond expectations once again teaching two outstanding book workshops one using wooden boards as the covers and one teaching several methods of coptic binding int he second. Steve Pittlekow returned to the Morgan to teach marbling as only he can do and pop-up book master Shawn Sheehy taught the Language of Pop Ups. There were so many amazing workshops it is hard to fit them on to one page.

2011 Session 1 workshops will start in April so make sure you check back to find out what is in store for next year. All we can gaurentee is that it will be awesome.
