About

The first class will discuss/ demonstrate ways understand your materials, to develop rich visual surfaces using relief printing, monoprinting, and/or eco-dying that can enhance visual narratives. Participates will be encouraged to explore various papers, from handmade papers with their unique qualities, hues, and textures, to preprinted, and upcycled. Second class with discuss methods of integrating the developed papers, creating tone and value through weaving. No experience required!

Student Supply List: Pencil, ruler, cutting mat/ surface, scissors, craft knife, glue brush, white or PVA glue, blue tape, papers, tweezer. Papers – heavy to thin [cotton or cotton blend, abaca, washi]. Optional: For monoprint; flat surfaced found object or various plant or flower materials, brayer/roller, printing ink. For relief; flat surfaced found object, or relief black/rubber block/ white eraser, carving tool, brayer/roller, relief ink or ink pad, carving tool. For eco-dyeing; various plant or flower materials, alum powder from grocery store spice…
