Lauren Davies

Walking and Looking

Digital prints on metal

Davies' work often harkens back to her childhood experience of attending art classes at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Museum of Natural History. This artistic education involved countless Saturday afternoons spent sketching the Carnegie’s natural history dioramas, insect collections and replicas of everything from beaver dams to miniature period rooms.

This formative experience led to a MFA in Sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute.  Her long term studio practice in the Bay Area involved quirky reproductions of objects and collections based on obscure facts and histories. Materiality is a key component coupled with labor intensive processes and a dark humor.

Lauren also served as a curator, gallery director and public programs director in the Bay Area from 2000-2012. She was the Gallery Director at 2731 Prospect Contemporary Art in Cleveland from 2015-2017.

Lauren is now engaged in a full time studio practice in Cleveland with support from the Joan Mitchell Foundation and the Ohio Arts Council.
