Michael Marefka is a painter from Cleveland, Ohio. Working almost exclusively in oils, Marefka’s work is both an investigation of modern art history as well as his own experience. His paintings utilize a tapestry of techniques, both borrowed and invented, that reflect a mood saturated by nostalgia, camaraderie, and romanticism. The subjects are often simple: figures in conversation at the kitchen table, a bowl of fruit below the window, or a side yard between houses in the night. Marefka’s work has been shown throughout Northeast Ohio and many of his paintings now reside in private collections
