Open Studios
The Morgan's Open Studio program allows artists and students access to studio space and equipment, and provides them with an opportunity to create art in the areas of papermaking, letterpress printing, and bookbinding.
Open Studio
Hours
The Open Studio operates twice a week, Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Join us Thursday, September 26th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for our first Letterpress Community Printing Open Studio!
Open Studio Guidelines
To sign up for the Open Studio program, please read through our guidelines below.
-
An artist should have attended a minimum of one Morgan workshop that has taught you the process you will practice during your Open Studio session.
-
If you have yet to take a class at the Morgan, you must first sign up for a one-on-one primer session with our Studio staff to familiarize yourself with the correct usage of the equipment and studio spaces. These introductory courses cost $50 for the first hour and $20 per hour afterward.
-
If no prior classes have been taken, a person must complete the necessary paperwork.
-
Artists with prior experience may use the studios upon staff approval.
-
Purchasing Open Studio time must be done prior to the start of your studio appointment. This can be done in person at the Morgan Shop, or over the phone at 216.361.9255.
-
Bookings must be made at least 3 days in advance. Cancelling an appointment less than three days away is non-refundable, and must be rescheduled for a later date. To reschedule an appointment less than 3 days away, please call the Morgan or email emily@morganconservatory.org.
-
Failure to attend the studio appointment without proper notice will result in the full price of the appointment being charged.
-
Open Studio sessions must fall within the Open Studio hours at the Morgan Conservatory. A staff member will be present during your session to answer questions, but not to provide assistance.
-
The per-hour rates must include the time taken to clean up the studio you are using. All types set in the print studio must be re-distributed. We will hold a $50 deposit that will be charged only if the studio is left unclean.
-
Materials and tools such as proofing paper, inks, PVA, awls, etc. are included in our Open Studio rates. Materials like binder’s board, book cloth, handmade paper, etc. may be purchased through our store.
Artists may reserve Open Studio spots on our scheduling website, youcanbook.me, by contacting emily@morganconservatory.org,
or by calling the Morgan at 216.361.9255.
