Exploring Encaustics

This workshop will explore the Morgan’s cylinder presses and collection of large wood and metal type. Participants will make pieces with handset type and pressure printing imagery, an experimental letterpress technique used to create textural effects. By the end of the workshop, participants wilLearn the ancient art of painting with molten beeswax in this two-day workshop.l have created a series of letterpress broadsides or posters. The workshop provides a wonderful introduction to setting type by hand, learning alternative letterpress processes, and operating the Morgan’s Vandercook presses, the workhorses of letterpress printing.
