During this introductory workshop taught by papermaker Ryan Cermak, participants will be introduced to Western hand papermaking's history and basics, from processing fibers in the beater to drying and cleaning up in the studio.

About

Participants will look at different types of fiber, discuss their physical properties and how to process them, and learn about the types of paper they produce. Through hands-on demonstrations, participants will learn the equipment and tools of the studio and how to achieve consistent sheet formation making paper from cotton, abaca, and flax fibers. No prior experience required!

Instructor Bio: Ryan Cermak is a visual artist residing in Cleveland, Ohio. Ryan is the studio assistant at the Morgan Conservatory, where he produces handmade papers and teaches community outreach classes.
